INVISTA builds airbags and carpet upstream raw material plants in Shanghai

INVISTA , a US fiber manufacturer, recently said it has started construction of two factories in Shanghai, which will produce raw materials for airbags , carpets and other nylon 6,6 industrial applications.

In 2015, one of the plants can produce 150,000 tons of nylon polymer annually, and the other plant can produce 215,000 tons of hexanediamine annually. This is the main raw material for the production of nylon 6,6.

The company also plans to build a factory with an annual output of 300,000 tons of adiponitrile, which is also the upstream raw material for nylon production, but no specific timetable has been given. The total investment of these three factories will exceed one billion US dollars (6.23 billion yuan).

According to the company’s latest report, INVISTA’s Asia Pacific carpet application testing laboratory was officially completed. The laboratory is the first laboratory in INVISTA's Function and Interior Materials Division in Asia. It conducts a variety of carpet terminal application testing and certification services for the carpet industry. The center will test the anti-fouling properties, wear resistance and color fastness of carpets.

In 2013 INVISTA expanded its airbag fiber factory in Qingpu, Shanghai. The company mainly supplies raw materials to Autoliv, TRW Automotive, Hyundai Motor and Jinzhou Jinheng Automotive Safety System Holdings Co., Ltd. in China.
