On Monday, August 9th, **CFD FF/PM Chris Wheatley of Truck Co. 2** passed away after sustaining injuries when he fell from a ladder near the roofline while responding to a fire at 615 W. Randolph. His funeral took place on August 13, 2010, at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Alsip, following a Mass at St. John Fisher Church on South Washtawaw.
A commemorative marking now proudly adorns Truck 2, one of four that honor his service and sacrifice. The images below capture key moments from the solemn event.
The casket was carried by Engine 5, with firefighters standing in respectful formation as it made its way to the church. A large crowd gathered, including members of the AFFI Honor Guard, representing numerous suburban Chicago fire departments.
As the casket was brought out of the funeral home, Chicago Fire Department commissioners and chiefs stood in salute, honoring the life of a dedicated firefighter.
