CFD LODD FF/PM Chris Wheatley

On Monday, August 9th, **Firefighter/Paramedic Chris Wheatley of Truck Company 2** passed away after sustaining serious injuries when he fell from a ladder near the roof while responding to a fire at 615 W. Randolph. His funeral took place on August 13, 2010, at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Alsip, following a Mass at St. John Fisher Church on South Washtawaw. A series of commemorative plaques now mark the truck he served with, one of which is shown here. The image captures a moment during the final honors, as the casket was carried onto Engine 5 for the procession to the church. Another photo shows the solemn moment when Chicago Fire Department commissioners and chiefs stood in salute as the casket was taken from the funeral home. Firefighters from across the city and surrounding suburbs gathered along the streets near St. John Fisher Church, with members of the AFFI Honor Guard representing various suburban departments. The casket was then carried out of the church by fellow firefighters, marking the end of a heartfelt farewell. For those interested in viewing more images from the ceremony, they can be found on Tim Olk’s website [here](#) and Larry Shapiro’s website [here](#). Chris Wheatley's legacy lives on through the respect and honor shown by his colleagues, and his memory will never be forgotten.
