Your tattoo will become a small battery

Researchers at the University of California, San Diego, are working on a novel study. They want to make the tattoo a small generator and fuel will be your sweat. And this prototype was exactly a fortuitous product. The original purpose of the team of engineers was to find a better way to measure lactic acid.

Today's technology requires blood tests to measure lactate levels, and the team wants to measure it through sweat. Therefore, they tried to make a tattoo that was monitored by embedding a lactic acid sensor. This tattoo can monitor the wearer's lactic acid production without any restrictions, not to mention blood tests. Later, the team wanted to remove the battery further to make the device more concise. This led the research team to realize that they are creating a bio-cell.
Professor of nanotechnology at the University of California, said: "We want to collect energy from the body in a non-invasive way." Therefore, the research team added a cathode to the tattoo. The anode contains an enzyme that removes electrons from lactic acid (this is also the test principle of a lactic acid sensor), and accepts electrons at the cathode to form an electric current.
This is the first biofuel cell to collect energy from body fluids. This technique was demonstrated at the meeting of the American Chemical Society. This prototype, not just a battery, has its original purpose and is a specific type of health measurement. This approach may lead to more similar creations.
