Bohai Pistons: Towards Higher Emission Standards

"If the engine is the 'heart' of the car, then the piston can be understood as the 'central nerve' of the engine. Apart from being in a harsh working environment, it is also the busiest part of the engine. It can be seen that the piston The role of the National IV diesel engine plays a decisive role," said Lin Fenghua, chairman of the Bohai Pistons. On September 4, the Central Media's “National IV Industry Implementation” took the first step in the primary research activity of Shandong Binzhou Bohai Piston Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as “Bohai Pistons”) and successfully started to understand the preparation status of its IV piston products in the field. .

Continuously develop higher standard products

As a leading company in the piston industry, the Bohai Pistons has always adhered to the road of continuous innovation and development. At present, the company has become the first listed company in the domestic industry and the fourth largest global comprehensive strength.

For the upgrade of emission standards, the Bohai Pistons also have a clear understanding and a clear strategic plan. Although the Pistons are not a direct component of emissions reductions, they can play a key role in emissions upgrades.

“From the emission upgrade point of view, the matching of the piston and the engine combustion system is critical, and it determines whether the emission upgrade can be implemented smoothly. From the piston's structural point of view, changes in the combustion chamber structure can make the engine meet the established emission standards. Lin Fenghua pointed out: "The implementation of the National IV Standard has upgraded the engine from a mechanical pump to a high pressure common rail system, and the injection pressure has also been significantly increased. For the piston, only by continuously increasing the diameter of its combustion chamber can it be matched continuously. Fuel injection pressure."

At the same time, Lin Fenghua also said: “The piston's structural design is also directly related to nitrogen oxides and carbon dioxide emissions, product economics, and engine noise. For the pistons, the improvement of the design of different parts has a very large improvement in the overall performance of the engine. s help."

It is precisely because of the special status of the piston that its technological upgrading becomes more urgent. According to Lin Fenghua, the Bohai Pistons has tracked the development trend of international engines in real time and developed new technologies for the Pistons. As early as 7 years ago, it devoted itself to the research of the National IV products. Currently, the R&D technology of the National IV products is complete, and it can fully meet the needs of batch products. demand.

Today, the Bohai Pistons has been batch-matched with China IV products from major diesel engine manufacturers such as Weichai, Yuchai, Xichai, and Dongfeng Cummins. For some small-scale, weak technical host plants, Bohai Pistons also gave full technical support to help them upgrade their products.

Adhering to the strategy of producing one generation, one generation of reserves, and one generation of research and development, the Bohai Pistons continue to develop diesel piston technology for emissions from the state V and Euro VI while discharging engine pistons in volume-producing countries IV. According to briefings, in 2013, the Pistons of the Bohai Pistons, which had already been equipped with National VI emissions, were successfully developed.

The state should actively perform its supervisory duties

As far as emission upgrades are concerned, government support plays an important role in addition to the company’s own efforts.

Lin Fenghua believes that in the past few years, the shift of emission standards has pushed and pushed again, and the truck market has become sluggish. This has a lot to do with the country's swaying policy. Today, the industry is still in a wait-and-see attitude because oil is not in place. Oil products are controlled by state-owned enterprises, so state-owned enterprises should assume more social responsibilities and the government should also make a difference in this regard.

“At present, most car companies and OEMs are well prepared, but it cannot be denied that some small companies still have a fluke, and counterfeit products still exist in the market. Although the central media has already exposed some companies, they are only one of them. On behalf of the government, the government should also treat all fraudulently and rigorously falsify behaviors. In addition, the national IV vehicles are generally 10,000 to 20,000 yuan more expensive than the national III vehicles, and this part of the spread makes users bear the burden. As the signs show, the central government should more stringently require that only by strengthening supervision and formulating practical and feasible regulations can the truck market get better," said Lin Fenghua.

Regarding the impact of the National IV emission standards, Lin Fenghua believes that not only is it not a problem, but it is a greater opportunity. “It should be said that every upgrade is an upgrade of technology, and technological upgrading requires a strong R&D capability. As a leading industry in the domestic piston industry, the Bohai Piston’s R&D investment, talent input, and investment in R&D facilities are all very large. Those with weaker capabilities are Companies that do not have independent research and development capabilities are bound to be eliminated in the process of emissions switching. This is an inevitable opportunity for us to usher in the opportunity. At present, more than 90% of the OEMs have worked closely with the Bohai Pistons. "Lin Fenghua said.

Strive to be the world's best parts supplier
Although the technology was continuously upgraded, the Bohai Pistons did not stand still. In recent years, in order to realize the sustainable and healthy development of the company, the Bohai Pistons has begun to enter the overseas market on the basis of consolidating the domestic advantageous market, and strives to achieve the goal of “being the best global supplier of parts and components”.

“In the past, we mainly focused on domestic customers, but for Bohai Pistons, which is trying to become the world’s best parts supplier, we must eliminate the local concept. Especially in the market, we need to further develop international high-end customers and become their The strategic suppliers can achieve the best in the world in this way. This best is not self-declared by us, but a strategic evaluation to be given by customers.” Lin Fenghua said.

At present, the Bohai Pistons has been steadily advancing in the international market and has been recognized by a number of well-known international customers. It is understood that after the successful supply of Cummins, Caterpillar, Koehler, and Kawasaki to the United States, the Bohai Piston successfully supplied bulk quantities for the German Volkswagen Group; later, it signed a bulk supply contract with German Daimler AG. With the United States GE company also launched a comprehensive and solid cooperation, which greatly promoted the company's international development process.

While supporting products for well-known foreign companies, the Bohai Pistons also actively participated in their product development and achieved early intervention. Lin Fenghua pointed out: "If you want to enter the R&D system of foreign companies, you must first have the ability to develop with them simultaneously. This is something that many domestic companies do not have. At present, we are involved in the development of new products for Daimler, and the products are all European. The V standard started. Also, it was precisely due to early intervention in mass product development that we successfully entered the VW's global supply system."

If a strong R&D capability is the basis for a company to become bigger and stronger, then the after-sales service system is the key to ensuring its sustainable development. “The Bohai Pistons has been nurturing the service system for many years because the products are sold out, and more is still supported by services. This is why we value the service very much.” Lin Fenghua said: “Overseas, customers sell products. The service is very important, which requires us to overcome the difficulties of language, time difference and distance in the service process. For these issues, the company has formulated comprehensive policies and solutions to improve the quality of products while gradually improving the after-sales service network. It also hires local technical experts and customers to communicate and serve in major markets.”

In China, the after-sales service market accounted for about 30% of Bohai's operating revenue. In order to make better use of the service platform of the Bohai Pistons, the company now also provides its customers with lubricants and other piston-related products.
