Fox River Grove FPD updates

The Fox River Grove Fire Protection District pages within MABAS Division 5 have been recently updated to reflect their latest addition: the Dive Rescue Unit, along with a new photo of their fire station. These updates provide a more accurate and current representation of their emergency response capabilities. Most ambulances in McHenry County are assigned unit numbers that identify both the department and the specific vehicle. Typically, these numbers don’t go very high, as most departments operate with only a few stations. However, the newest ambulance for Fox River Grove carries a unique unit number—657—that holds deep significance. The number is designed with a halo and angel wings, symbolizing a heartfelt tribute to seven young lives lost in a tragic train collision at a nearby rail crossing in 1995. The incident occurred just half a block from the fire station, where a school bus was struck by a commuter train. The victims were children aged between 14 and 18: Jeffrey J. Clark, Susanna Guzman, Michael B. Hoffman, Stephanie Fulham, Joseph A. Kalte, Shawn P. Robinson, and Tiffany Schneider. Their memory is honored through the design of the number 657, which serves as a powerful reminder of the lives they touched and the community’s enduring grief. Alongside the new ambulance, the Dive Rescue Unit has also been added to the district's fleet, enhancing their ability to respond to water-related emergencies. This specialized unit is equipped to handle situations such as drownings, rescues from bodies of water, and other aquatic incidents, further strengthening the district’s emergency services. A second image shows the dedication plaque on the ambulance, highlighting the symbolic meaning behind the number. The angel wings and halo around the '7' represent the seven students who lost their lives, while the overall design reflects the community’s commitment to remembering them and supporting one another in times of loss. These updates not only improve the visual representation of the Fox River Grove Fire Protection District but also serve as a meaningful tribute to those who have been impacted by tragedy. It's a touching example of how public service organizations can honor the past while continuing to serve the present.
