Autodesk and Associated General Contractors of America Equip Women in Construction with Properly Fitting Safety Harnesses

**Autodesk and AGC Launch Grant Program to Equip Over 300 Women with Better-Fitting Safety Harnesses and Encourage More Women in Construction** **SAN RAFAEL, Calif., March 2, 2020** — Autodesk, Inc. (NASDAQ: ADSK) and the Associated General Contractors of America (AGC) have announced a new initiative aimed at improving safety and increasing female representation in the construction industry. The program provides grants to 21 construction firms, enabling them to distribute more than 300 fall protection harnesses specifically designed for women. This effort addresses a critical issue: many standard safety harnesses are not tailored for women’s body types, which can lead to discomfort, reduced mobility, and even increased risk of injury. By introducing better-fitting equipment, the program seeks to enhance safety and make the construction field more accessible and appealing to women. According to federal data, women make up less than 9% of the total construction workforce and less than 3% of craft professionals. Meanwhile, falls remain one of the leading causes of workplace fatalities in the industry, part of the “fatal four” hazards identified by OSHA. “Allison Scott, director of construction thought leadership at Autodesk Construction Solutions, emphasized the importance of this initiative. “We know that bringing more women into construction is essential to closing the labor gap. Ensuring their safety must be our top priority.” Stephen E. Sandherr, CEO of AGC of America, added, “These grants will help equip hundreds of women with the right gear to stay safe on the job. Ill-fitting PPE can actually increase the risk of injury, so it's crucial we address this issue head-on.” The program also aims to support recruitment efforts. Firms receiving the grants are required to participate in training programs to ensure proper use of the harnesses. Additionally, AGC is collaborating with safety equipment manufacturers MSA and 3M to develop and distribute these specialized harnesses. Several participating companies shared their enthusiasm for the initiative. Russ Nicolai of Snyder Roofing said, “This grant comes at a critical time and gives us the tools to better support our female workers.” Anne Brown from Christman Constructors added, “It’s time to open doors for women and show them the opportunities in construction.” The 21 companies involved employ over 22,000 people nationwide. Among them are well-known firms like Hughes General Contractors, McCarthy Building Companies, and Rosendin Electric. Grantees will be recognized at the AGC Annual Convention and CONEXPO-CON/AGG conference in Las Vegas during the week of March 9. This initiative marks an important step toward creating a safer, more inclusive construction industry—one where women can thrive and contribute fully.
