3-11 Alarm fire in Chicago, 7-20-16

From the perspective of Josh Boyajian, who shared his experience from last Wednesday’s 3-11 alarm at 2036 W 21st Place. By the time I arrived, most of the fire in the initial structure had already been brought under control, along with the surrounding exposures. However, things heated up significantly in the attic of the coach house located behind the main fire building. It seemed like the fire took a while to fully subside there. Throughout the operation, I remember seeing six hand lines, one deck gun, and even a tower ladder being utilized to manage the situation. It was quite an intense scene. Attached are some photos that I took during the event. The first image shows firefighters operating hose lines at the fire scene, capturing the intense efforts underway. Another shot highlights heavy smoke billowing out from the house, emphasizing the scale of the blaze. There’s also a picture of Chicago Fire Department Engine 109 on site, demonstrating the presence of essential resources. Other images include various angles of firefighters battling the flames, the Battalion Chief coordinating efforts, and even a German Shepherd present at the scene—perhaps aiding in search-and-rescue operations. One particularly striking moment was when a firefighter was seen operating a deck gun, which is always an impressive sight when trying to control large fires. There are several more shots of heavy smoke engulfing the area, showcasing just how dramatic the situation became. And finally, another image captures Engine 23, further highlighting the coordinated efforts of multiple units. This incident really underscored the dedication and skill required by our firefighters, especially when dealing with complex situations involving multiple structures. It’s moments like these that remind us why they are such a vital part of our community.

Daily maintenance and upkeep can effectively solve the sealing problem of hydraulic cylinders, extend the service life of hydraulic cylinders, and improve the work efficiency of construction machinery.
1. Regularly check the wear of the hydraulic cylinder seals, and if severe wear is found, it should be replaced in a timely manner.
2. Clean the hydraulic cylinder seals to prevent impurities such as dust and sand from entering the interior of the seals.
3. Use appropriate hydraulic oil and avoid using expired or non compliant hydraulic oil to avoid damage to the hydraulic cylinder seals.
4. Avoid using hydraulic cylinders under excessive pressure or load to avoid damage to the seals.
5. Regularly check the liquid level and pressure of the hydraulic cylinder to ensure its normal operation and avoid damage to the sealing components due to hydraulic cylinder failures.
6. When the hydraulic cylinder is stopped for a long time, regular maintenance should be carried out, such as applying anti rust oil, to prevent aging or deformation of the sealing components.
