Ubisense launches automatic precision positioning system for the automotive industry

Bernd Williams-Boock, CEO of East German Ortrander Foundry, had a problem. Over the past five years, parts of the heating and automotive parts suppliers have tripled.
He said: "We have to introduce new technologies to improve the manual process in order to keep up with the development of production. I have to know which model of the finished product is there and where it is placed so that it can be delivered to the customer in time." It is important to understand the current state of unfinished parts in sandblasting and sanding to determine if the company can complete the plan and make predictions.
The smart forklift concept was developed at the Fraunhofer Application Logistics Information System Center in Cottbus to meet the requirements. The forklift is equipped with a passive RFID reader, electronic weighing device, Ubisense precise real-time positioning system and terminal. The passive RFID reader recognizes the forklift truck, the weighing device determines the weight of the container (thereby knowing the number of parts in the box), the real-time positioning system determines the exact position and orientation of the forklift, and the terminal allows the forklift operator The collected data can be checked and communicated with the back-end logistics system. The precision positioning system records where the container is unloaded in the logistics system so that the forklift operator can find it. Information about the condition of the parts in the container can also be added via the terminal. The location of the container provides information on where the parts are and which steps they take to the manufacturing process. Phebey, vice president of European sales at Ubisense, said: "The joint development of this first-class manufacturing company is second to none. The logistics solutions we developed with Ortrander's Fraunhofer Institute and other partners can be extended to other foundries and can be promoted. To any manufacturer that wants to increase the efficiency of the production process."
Professor Uwe Meinberg, leader of Fraunhofer ALl in Cottbus, said: "We were initially skeptical about whether RF technology can overcome environmental problems and reliable operations. Later, the performance of the Ubisense UWB positioning system left us very deep. The impression is that there are piles of metal containers filled with metal parts and the system can work reliably." He finally said: "Now we can find the parts and know if we can ship them according to the customer's requirements. But we The work has not been completed, we need to use the collected real-time data to optimize the maintenance of the forklift, improve the effectiveness of delivery information, and even reduce the occurrence of accidents in the factory."
