Gender can be identified through smiles: AI has biometrics

With the widespread adoption of face recognition on smartphones, the inscrutable technology has become more common nowadays. At present, most people face recognition uses the facial features to distinguish the user's gender, which means that if a handsome young man has long hair, he cannot distinguish it. Recently, a foreign research institute has developed artificial intelligence that can distinguish between men and women through a smile, and the accuracy has been greatly improved.

Professor Hassan Ugail, who is in charge of this project, said: “Interestingly, women think that their smiles are more expressive, and our research has confirmed this. Women have a wider smile and their lips are much larger. "More than men" means that the program can accurately analyze the gender of the user based on the subtle facial features of men and women when they smile.

It is understood that this technique can measure the movement of facial muscles at the moment of human smile, and does not rely on a certain feature to distinguish. Therefore, the recognition rate of this biometric technology is quite accurate. However, the research team also stated that this technology has yet to be improved and it is still in the testing stage, and it may also realize more complex identification in the future.
