Late last night, I received some incredible shots and even a video from Code Photography capturing the intense 4-alarm apartment fire that broke out in Oak Park. The incident happened on Tuesday evening, and it seems like it was quite a dramatic event.
Around 9:30 PM on October 20th, 2015, Oak Park Engine 620 arrived at a towering 4-story apartment building engulfed in flames, with fire spewing out of the roof. Engine 620 quickly called for additional support by requesting a box alarm. Firefighters initially attempted an interior attack but soon faced challenges with insufficient water pressure to combat the raging fire. Realizing the severity of the situation, Engine 620 escalated the alarm to a second level and deployed aerial trucks, ladders, and high-powered hoses to assist in the effort. Oak Park Engine 631 took position on side A, River Forest Engine 219 stationed itself at the A/B corner, Cicero's Truck 2 was assigned to the C side, Berwyn Engine 904 covered the D side, and Chicago's Truck 29 was placed at the A/D corner. Despite their efforts, crews still encountered significant exposure risks, especially on the C side where the original structure caught fire across all four floors.
