Hey everyone, here's a quick update along with some photos and a video of the intense 4-alarm apartment fire that broke out in Oak Park last night. The incident happened on Tuesday evening around 9:30 PM at a 4-story apartment complex. Firefighters from Oak Park Station 620 were first on the scene and quickly reported smoke and flames shooting out of the roof. They immediately called for additional support.
Within minutes, the situation escalated rapidly. The initial attack teams faced serious challenges as they struggled with water supply—there just wasn’t enough pressure or volume to combat the raging fire. Realizing the severity of the situation, Station 620 upgraded their request to a second alarm almost instantly. As reinforcements arrived, aerial trucks and master streams were deployed strategically.
Oak Park Engine 631 took position on Side A, while River Forest Engine 219 set up on the A/B corner. Cicero Truck 2 was stationed on Side C, where crews encountered significant exposure concerns due to the rapid spread of fire across all four floors of the building. Meanwhile, Berwyn Engine 904 covered the D side, and Chicago’s Truck 29 joined forces on the A/D corner, adding more water power to the effort. Despite these efforts, the fire continued to intensify, consuming everything in its path.
Here are some images I captured during the chaos. The first photo shows the dramatic moment when the flames began to engulf the entire structure. You can see how quickly the fire spread through multiple levels, making it incredibly difficult for firefighters to contain. In the second shot, you’ll notice the massive plumes of black smoke rising into the night sky—it was quite an overwhelming sight.

Unfortunately, the original building suffered extensive damage, and the firefighters had no choice but to focus on preventing further spread to neighboring structures. It’s heartbreaking to see such a large part of the community affected like this, but the teamwork and dedication of the emergency responders were truly inspiring.
