Exciting updates are now available for all Autodesk Revit software subscribers. Today marks the release of a major update—Revit 2016 R2—for both Maintenance Subscription and Desktop Subscription customers. This new version is packed with improvements that make it easier and more efficient to work with Building Information Modeling (BIM).
Revit 2016 R2 builds on the performance enhancements introduced in Revit 2016 and includes over 25 user-suggested features. With improved speed, scalability, and new tools, this update empowers users to better capture and express their design intent.
Importantly, Revit 2016 R2 is fully compatible with previous Revit 2016 versions, and there are no changes to the file format. That means you can install the update without disrupting your current projects or workflows.
For Maintenance and Desktop Subscription customers, this release offers immediate access to the latest Revit capabilities. Here’s a closer look at what’s new:
**Faster Performance:**
Revit 2016 R2 continues to improve how quickly you can navigate and interact with your models.
- **Draw Visible Elements Only**: This new option allows Revit to focus only on visible elements when orbiting, panning, or zooming, significantly improving navigation speed, especially in complex models.
- **Color Fill Background Processing**: Updates to color fills for rooms, spaces, HVAC zones, ducts, and pipes now happen in the background using multiple CPUs, reducing model interaction delays.
**Smarter Tools:**
New features help you embed design intent more effectively into your models.
- **Global Parameters**: Use project-wide parameters to drive dimensions and instance parameters across the entire model, making it easier to manage and control design logic.
- **Family Visibility Preview**: Preview family geometry before loading it into a project, allowing for faster adjustments and better decision-making.
**Improved Usability:**
Over 20 user-requested enhancements have been added, including:
- Unloading links per user to improve performance without affecting others.
- Copy/Paste commands in perspective views.
- Cancel print/export of multiple views and sheets with a single click.
- Better filtering of solids and voids for bulk editing.
- Enhanced rotation controls and insert part options in fabrication modeling.
As an incremental update, Revit 2016 R2 helps reduce disruption by spacing out changes rather than bundling them into large annual releases. The benefits in performance, usability, and stability make this update well worth the upgrade.
**Availability:**
Revit 2016 R2 is now available worldwide for Maintenance and Desktop Subscription customers starting today, October 20. It supports the following languages: Brazilian Portuguese, Czech, English, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Polish, Russian, Simplified Chinese, Spanish, and Traditional Chinese.
