High angle rescue in Deerfield

The Deerfield-Bannockburn Fire Protection District received an emergency call around 1:30 PM today reporting a window washer trapped near the top of a seven-story building at 520 Lake-Cook Road. As soon as the call came in, multiple fire companies were dispatched to support the local units. Upon arrival, the first responders discovered the worker hanging upside down, approximately six feet below the roofline. Recognizing the severity of the situation, the incident was escalated to bring in specialized technical rescue teams.

Deerfield Truck 20 quickly positioned itself close to the building and extended its aerial ladder to reach the victim. Firefighters climbed the ladder and carefully freed the worker from the harness. They then safely brought him down and handed him over to paramedics on the ground. The worker appeared shaken but was conscious and able to speak during the rescue.

Several witnesses captured images from different angles, though none show the worker before being rescued. We’ll be updating with more photos once they are submitted.
