This report comes from Art Zern:
Sycamore Fire Department responded to a General Alarm call just before midnight on Saturday, September 5th, 2020, for a structure fire. Engine 1 and Chief 3 arrived to find a two-story duplex engulfed in heavy fire on the C and D sides, with flames spreading to both floors and the attic. E-1 quickly deployed a 2.5-inch line to the C/D corner, effectively knocking down the main fire that had originated from the deck and spread through the vinyl siding. E-2 arrived shortly after and helped secure water supply while extending a second line to the second floor for full extinguishment and to pull walls and ceilings. Fortunately, all residents had already evacuated before the firefighters arrived.
C-3 was responsible for containing the fire since several General Alarm units were either delayed or unavailable. The efforts of E-1 and E-2 were commendable. DeKalb T-1 handled the roof operations, while other companies conducted extensive overhaul, checked the adjacent unit for any signs of fire extension, and performed RIT (Rapid Intervention Team) duties. A big thank you to our mutual aid partners for their support.

Another structure fire in just 8 days—this time, the Gold Shift crews made a solid response!
This is the official press release from the fire that occurred early Sunday morning:
On Saturday, September 5, 2020, at approximately 11:58 PM, the Sycamore Fire Department was called to 660 Hill Street for a reported structure fire. Upon arrival, the first responding units found heavy fire coming from the rear deck area of a residential building, which had extended vertically into the attic. Crews initially attacked the fire from the exterior using a large 2.5-inch hand line. Once the fire was under control, they transitioned to an aggressive interior attack with 1.75-inch lines and began a primary search for occupants.
The fire was quickly knocked down, and the crew had it fully under control within about 30 minutes. They remained on scene for an additional hour and a half to conduct overhaul and check for any signs of fire extension.
The Sycamore Fire Department was assisted by DeKalb, Genoa-Kingston, Elburn, Malta, Kirkland, Somonauk, Maple Park, and Burlington Fire Departments. The Sycamore Police Department, ComEd, and NICOR also provided support.
No injuries were reported among residents or firefighters. The roof structure suffered severe damage from heat and flames. The second floor was heavily damaged due to heat, smoke, and water. The first floor and basement also sustained damage from smoke and water. The estimated loss from the fire is around $150,000. The building is not habitable, and all residents have been relocated.
The cause of the fire remains undetermined pending further investigation.
