At present, Jinxi Chemical Machinery (Group) Co., Ltd. has been involved in a pilot project for a 600,000-ton-per-year PTA (Purified Terephthalic Acid) plant, led by the National Development and Reform Commission. The team visited key facilities, including the heavy-capacity workshop and turbine company, to gain a comprehensive understanding of the production process. During the review, the assessment group analyzed detailed data and discussed the technical development report. They concluded that the company successfully completed the research and development of the PTA drying process and the mechanical structure of the dryer, based on full digestion and absorption of imported equipment. This led to the creation of a large-scale CTA/PTA dryer with independent intellectual property rights, which holds significant practical value. The localization of PTA dryer equipment greatly reduced capital investment and ended China's reliance on imported large dryers.
PTA is a crucial raw material for producing polyester films, fibers, and packaging resins, and it is widely used as a basic chemical in various industries. Under the context of China’s “Eleventh Five-Year Plan,†there was a strong push to increase the localization of PTA plant equipment. The plan required that new 600,000-ton-per-year PTA plants achieve an equipment localization rate of over 80%. Seizing this rare opportunity, Jinxi took proactive steps. After nearly two years of research, inspections, and pre-operations, the company invested substantial funds in scientific and technological development and allocated significant human resources. It partnered with the National Development and Reform Commission and the China Machinery Industry Federation to undertake the development of key national equipment under the “Eleventh Five-Year Plan†— specifically, the drying machine for the 600,000-ton PTA plant.
From March 3, 2006, to the completion of the final overload tests on March 16, the project collected a vast amount of valuable data. This enabled deeper research into the drying process principles and structural design of the dryer. The project accumulated rich experience and laid a solid foundation for the standardization and industrialization of PTA dryers.
The evaluation of the pilot plant indicates that Jinxi has achieved a significant milestone in the R&D of 600,000-ton PTA project dryers. In the next phase, the company will actively apply the results of the pilot tests to the full-scale production of 600,000-ton PTA projects. This will further contribute to the localization of large-scale PTA equipment in China and support the country’s long-term industrial development goals.
