Application and Design of RFID Technology in Equipment Management

RFID is an automatic wireless identification and data acquisition technology. With the combination of traditional networks, RFID technology has shown great market potential. It is called "Internet of Things" and "second generation Internet". It uses wireless radio frequency. Non-contact two-way data transmission between the reader and the electronic tag for target recognition and data exchange. At home and abroad, RFID technology is widely used in industrial automation, commercial automation, transportation control management, asset management and many other fields. Today, new applications for RF ID technology are still emerging.

Asset management is an industry where RFID technology is used earlier and is more common. Compared with traditional two-dimensional codes, the non-contact and fast reading speed of RFID electronic tags, the benefits brought by improving work efficiency and accuracy are obvious. IT equipment as an asset has its own management particularity. The main storage room environment, equipment operation requirements, and metal characteristics of the equipment surface make the application of RFID technology in IT equipment management greatly restricted. This article is an attempt in this regard.

RFID technology features

1. What is RFID technology?

RFID is a non-contact automatic identification technology. Its basic principle is to realize the automatic identification of the recognized object by using the transmission characteristics of radio frequency signal and spatial coupling (inductance or electromagnetic coupling) or radar reflection. The most basic RFID system consists of three parts: 1) Tag, which consists of coupling elements and chips, each tag has a unique electronic code, attached to the object to identify the target object; 2) Reader (Reader) It is a device for reading or writing tag information, which can be designed as a handheld or fixed type; 3) an antenna (Antenna) for transmitting radio frequency signals between the tag and the reader.

According to different power supply methods, electronic tags can be divided into active tags, passive tags and semi-passive tags. Active tags have batteries and passive tags. Without a built-in battery, the semi-passive electronic tag part relies on the battery to work. According to the different working frequencies, it can be divided into low frequency electronic tags, high frequency electronic tags, ultra high frequency electronic tags and microwave electronic tags. Depending on the package type, it can be divided into credit card labels, linear labels, paper labels, glass tube labels, round labels, and special-purpose shaped labels.

The reader can wirelessly communicate with the electronic tag through the antenna, so that the tag identification code and the memory data can be read or written. A typical reader includes a high frequency module (transmitter and receiver), a control unit, and a reader antenna.

2, RFID technology features

Compared with barcode recognition systems, RFID technology has many advantages:

(1) Automatically identify the target object by radio frequency signal, without visible light source, and has penetrability, can directly read data through external materials, protect external packaging, and save recognition time;

(2) Since physical contact is not required, the label has no mechanical wear, has a long service life, and can work in a harsh environment with low environmental requirements;

(3) Data can be obtained without contact with the target, and the reading distance is wide, generally ranging from a few centimeters to more than ten meters;

(4) Support the function of writing data without re-creating a new label;

(5) Using anti-collision technology, it can process multiple RF tags at the same time, which is suitable for batch identification occasions;

(6) The object attached to the RFID tag can be tracked and positioned to provide location information.

In addition, due to the miniaturization of RFID chips and the practical application of high-performance chips, RFID tags not only help managers in different fields to track the location and handling of items, but also report other information attached to the tags in real time, such as the operating data of the devices. Wait.
