MORE THAN JUST A BICYCLE
Thank you for helping the students of Nejambezi Secondary School, located in Jambezi Village near Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe. Your generous support has made a real difference in their lives and in the broader community. Through your contribution, we were able to provide Buffalo Bicycles that are changing the way these students access education and opportunities. At World Bicycle Relief, we believe that education is the key to breaking the cycle of poverty and disease. For many students in rural areas, distance is a major barrier to attending school. A bicycle is not just a mode of transport—it’s a powerful tool that empowers them to reach their full potential. Buffalo Bicycles are built to last, designed specifically for rugged terrain and heavy use. They are assembled locally, which helps create jobs and ensures quality control. This local production model strengthens the economy and fosters long-term sustainability.
COMMUNITY-LED PROGRAM
In addition to providing bicycles, our Bicycles for Education Empowerment Program (BEEP) includes training local community members to form the Bicycle Supervisory Committee (BSC). This group plays a vital role in ensuring the program runs smoothly and that the bicycles are used responsibly. The BSC selects students based on their travel distance and vulnerability, creating clear guidelines to ensure the bikes are well-maintained and used effectively. They meet monthly to report on progress and any challenges faced by the students. We also train a local field mechanic who can repair and maintain the bicycles. This not only keeps the program running but also creates new job opportunities and improves the overall economic stability of the community.
BICYCLE DISTRIBUTION CEREMONY
The day of the Bicycle Distribution Ceremony is filled with excitement and hope. Students, along with their families, come together to celebrate this milestone. During the event, each student signs a contract, making the bicycle their personal property after graduation. Students commit to regular school attendance and are encouraged to use the bicycle to support their families’ livelihoods—without compromising their education. This ceremony is more than a gift; it's a symbol of trust, responsibility, and future success.BICYCLES RECEIVED
