The Grayslake Fire Protection District serves an area of 25 square miles in the heart of Lake County, Illinois. Currently, they operate out of two fire stations and are set to break ground on their third station in the spring of 2011. The new station will be located on Peterson Road, just east of Route 60, expanding their capacity to serve the growing community. The department utilizes a mix of full-time, part-time, and contract personnel to ensure continuous coverage and response.
While most of their equipment comes from Pierce, their newest engine is a 2009 Seagrave Maurauder II top-mount pumper, which has been highlighted in several local media features. This unit is known for its reliability and performance in both routine and emergency situations.
Grayslake’s ambulance fleet includes a combination of Road Rescue and Medtec units, providing versatile medical response capabilities. Additionally, the department operates a tanker built on an R-Model Mack chassis, which gained attention during a fire incident in Waukegan last year. This unit plays a crucial role in supporting firefighting operations by supplying water to remote areas.
The department also maintains a brush truck, designed for responding to wildfires and other vegetation-related emergencies. Their fire stations are strategically located to provide quick access to key parts of the district. Station 2, for example, is situated at 1200 Brae Loch Road, near the College of Lake County campus. This location allows for efficient response times to both residential and commercial areas.
With ongoing expansion and modernization efforts, the Grayslake Fire Protection District continues to enhance its ability to protect the lives and property of the residents it serves.
