Canadian domestic industry applies for anti-dumping and anti-subsidy merger investigation of thermoelectric refrigeration equipment and heat pumps originating in China

On April 15, the Canada Border Services Agency informed the Chinese Embassy in Canada that the Commercial Counselor's Office had said that it had received a qualified written application from Koolatron of Canada requesting thermoelectric refrigeration equipment and heat pumps originating in or exported from China ( Thermoelectric coolers and warmers) conduct anti-dumping and anti-subsidy merger investigations. The Canadian Customs tariff numbers of the products involved are 8418669090, 8418999090, 84186619190, and 8418501000.

The applicant believes that the products involved have dumped and subsidized products and caused damage to Canadian domestic industries. The dumping margins ranged from 47% to 117%, and the subsidies ranged from 25% to 50%. At present, the Canadian Border Service Agency is reviewing the application and will decide on whether to file a case before May 15.

According to the statistics of the Electrical and Mechanical Chamber of Commerce, in 2007, the amount of China-related products exported to Canada was approximately US$ 21.76 million, an increase of 111% over the same period of last year. Once the case is filed, it will become the seventh anti-dumping and anti-subsidy merger investigation launched by Canada against Chinese products.
