Excerpts from fox32chicago.com:
Evanston firefighters responded to a residential fire on Sunday night at 9:09 p.m. in the 2200 block of Sherman Avenue. The call came in about a single-family home that was already on fire.
Upon arrival, firefighters found the south side of the house fully engulfed in flames, with thick smoke pouring out of the structure. A confused resident was safely removed from the front door, and firefighters also managed to rescue the family’s cat from inside the burning home.
The fire was brought under control within an hour. The homeowner was taken to the hospital for evaluation but is reported to be in good condition. Two firefighters were also treated for minor soft tissue injuries and released later that night.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation by local authorities. No other injuries or significant damage have been reported at this time.
Photos from the scene show multiple fire trucks and emergency vehicles responding to the incident. The Evanston Fire Department was quick to arrive and handle the situation efficiently.
