Evanston firefighters were called to a residential fire on Sunday night at 9:09 p.m. in the 2200 block of Sherman Avenue. The incident involved a single-family home that quickly caught fire, prompting an immediate response from local emergency services.
Upon arrival, firefighters found the south side of the house fully engulfed in flames, with heavy smoke spreading throughout the structure. A confused resident was safely evacuated from the front doorway, and a family cat was also rescued from inside the burning home. The swift actions of the firefighters helped prevent further damage and ensured the safety of those inside.
The fire was brought under control within an hour, and the affected resident was taken to the hospital for evaluation, where they were reported to be in good condition. Two firefighters sustained minor soft tissue injuries during the operation and were also transported to the hospital for treatment. Their conditions are currently stable.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation by local authorities. Officials have not yet released any details about the origin or potential causes of the blaze. Residents in the area are being advised to remain cautious and report any suspicious activity to the Evanston Fire Department.
