The *Daily Herald* has published a series of in-depth reports on the Illinois Department of Public Health's ongoing investigation into the Antioch Rescue Squad, which has led to disciplinary actions against several of its members.
Two EMTs, Kyle Shouse and Chris McBrady, are now facing potential license revocation after state officials confirmed allegations that they engaged in serious misconduct, including mistreating patients and coworkers while working at the rescue squad.
According to the Illinois Department of Public Health, both individuals are under scrutiny for their conduct, with officials determining whether they should be allowed to continue working as EMTs or paramedics. The allegations include a disturbing pattern of behavior, such as secretly adding prescription medication to the food and drinks of unsuspecting EMTs during shifts. In addition, they are accused of stealing prescription-only IV bags and using them without proper authorization—either on themselves or others.
It is currently unclear if Shouse and McBrady are still employed by the Antioch Rescue Squad. However, officials stated that both were active members of the team when the alleged incidents occurred after 2008.
Documents obtained by the *Daily Herald* reveal that McBrady and Shouse are accused of inserting Lasix, a prescription diuretic, into the meals and beverages of other EMTs. Shouse is also charged with arriving for duty while under the influence of alcohol and mistreating patients. Specifically, he is said to have struck a psychiatric patient with a clipboard, yelled at another, and unnecessarily restrained a third.
McBrady, on the other hand, is accused of adding Benadryl to the food of fellow EMTs, providing treatment without written consent, and falsifying patient care reports by falsely claiming other EMTs were present during care. He is also alleged to have thrown a patient’s walker, used inappropriate language toward a patient, and refused to transport someone who later suffered an aneurysm.
In addition to Shouse and McBrady, Ethan Bolin, another member of the Antioch Rescue Squad, is facing a possible license suspension for taking a prescription-only IV solution and instructing another EMT to administer it to him. Attempts to contact Bolin about the suspension were unsuccessful.
