Here's a report from Eric Haak about a significant fire that took place early Sunday morning in Chicago:
The incident occurred on the 6700 block of Union Avenue. Battalion 18 was dispatched with a working fire response around 7:15 AM, and Engine 54 arrived shortly after, confirming that a two-and-a-half-story frame building was fully involved and spreading to nearby structures. Upon arrival, Battalion 18 immediately boxed the fire and reported water issues, prompting a 2-11 alarm. As the situation escalated, the occupied exposure also became fully involved.
A total of five engines responded: Engine 54, 47, 84, 116, and 50. Notably, Engine 84 was operating out of D533, and Engine 50 was using D598. Both Tower Ladders 34 and 37 were also on standby. Eventually, Tower Ladder 34 was deployed, bringing the total number of lines into use to six handlines and three master streams. The fire was brought under control just after 8:00 AM, and Human Services was called in to assist with four adults and six children who had been affected by the incident.
Eric Haak captured several powerful images from the scene, showing the intensity of the fire and the efforts of the firefighters. Below are some of the photos:
